Chateauneuf charity walk

We have a walk next Tuesday (March 6th) at Chateauneuf-du-Faou, starting at 2pm. This is an easy walk of under 6kms around the Nantes-Brest canal, with one lock-crossing and some potentially muddy/wet spots, so proper footwear needed. Well-behaved dogs welcome but they must be kept on leads during road walking. It will be possible for those who want to offer support but cannot walk so far to do a short, level, out and back stroll at the beginning of our route. Refreshments will be offered after the walk.
Meeting point is in the parking area near the pizzeria La Chaland on the waterside (see picture above). Take the D36 from the town centre down to the river but turn left immediately BEFORE the bridge and continue ahead to the parking. All monies from this walk will be given to the charity Cancer Support France. Usual entry fee of 4 euros per person, but any donations above that welcome in this very good cause.

Coming up ...

In March as usual we go back to two events a month. In the next few months we have all sorts of things to look forward to: a charity walk in aid of Cancer Support France at Chateauneuf-du-Faou in March, our Brocéliande trip in April to explore King Arthur territory, a fantastic coastal walk at Combrit in May, a Morlaix town walk and a walking holiday on Belle-Ile in June and a picnic/geology walk/coastal ramble in July - just to mention a few. Watch this space!

Spring-like Sunshine!

What lovely weather for being by the sea! We walked down the Anse de Penfoul and then along the Odet to the port of Benodet, continuing past the church of Thomas Beckett and on or beside all three beaches, right down to the Pointe St-Gilles. The sun shone, the sea sparkled and we enjoyed all the best of Benodet, including a stroll on the sand, good food and a waterside après-walk drink. Thanks to all for a really pleasurable afternoon.

Benodet walk

We have a walk on Tuesday (14th) at beautiful Benodet. This is an easy, mostly out and back walk by the estuary with great sea views in a place with an interesting history and some fine sights. The photo above was taken on February 14th 2011!
Meeting place is the parking area by the roundabout before you enter the town of Benodet. (The D44 from Pont l'Abbé and the D34 from Quimper meet here.) The walk starts at 2pm. All welcome.

Thanks

Thank you very much to all who attended Monday's course, and to those at L'Autre Rive who looked after us so well. We had a great day, covering not all but quite a lot of the best Brittany coast and island locations, as well as some important historical events and environmental issues.
Dates for the diary now include the Brocéliande trip 23-25 April (B&B places possible) and our annual coastal walking holiday, this year on Belle-Ile, for four days at the beginning of June. More details before too long, but places limited and must be confirmed by the end of February. Send BWs an email to be on a mailing list about this holiday and other events.
Sorry no enticing photo - writing this in Dinan tourist office without access to the BWs archive.
