Committee member Karen has spent the weekend making sausages from local pork, ably abetted by (ex-butcher) husband Graham. There's a thought for the BWs summer party!

In the forest
(Photos by Barry)
We had a lovely walk in the Foret de Carnoet yesterday, blessed by sunshine and excellent food provided by members for the picnic beforehand. Thanks to all those who contributed to the very enjoyable atmosphere of the day, and especially Val for the delicious cakes. The ruined Abbey of St Maurice with its bat colony and park by the Laita estuary is highly recommended for a visit.

Picnic and walk - Foret de Carnoet, April 21
We have a picnic (12 noon) and afternoon walk on Tuesday 21st around the Foret de Carnoet. This is just south of Quimperlé in the SE corner of Finistere. Take the D49 (direction Le Pouldu) from the town and after 7kms turn left to the site and abbey of St-Maurice. Meet in car-park there and bring food to share for lunch by the Laita estuary. The abbey and its gardens will be open at 2pm (entrance fee) for those who'd like to enjoy a beautiful waterside setting and ancient buildings. Then a gentle stroll in that area or move (5mins) by car to the forest for a longer walk - plenty of options on the day! All welcome.

Been there, done that, got the sardine
Final day of the history course today and thanks go to all the students for their interest, patience, humour and remarkable ability to stay awake in the afternoons. It's quite sad to reach the end of our journey together through the history of Brittany but we have interesting events coming up, such as a visit to the Chateau de Kerjean and a day out in Pays Bigouden, which tie in well with the course material.
In the autumn we will be offering four study days - Megaliths, Medieval, Legends and Religion - to look in greater depth at major themes of Brittany's remarkable heritage.

Coastal Walk from Plouezoc'h
A group of us aged 8 to .....!, old and new members, left the bourg of Plouezoc'h for a walk along the beautiful Dourduff estuary. In spite of forecasts of showers, the sun shone throughout as we walked alongside the banks of the estuary. The walk was further enhanced by the lovely variety of spring flowers dotted in the woodland alongside the mud flats. We were well rewarded for our efforts in negotiating the undulating river bank when we arrived at Le Dourduff en Mer, where we stopped for juice and homemade cakes. We then continued to follow the estuary into the Rade de Morlaix spotting the Chateau du Taureau in the distance.
On leaving the coast, we began a gentle climb via pretty woodland paths taking us back to our starting point. A perfect walk for a spring day!

Walk on Tuesday at Plouezoc'h
We have a beautiful (whatever the weather) walk in countryside around the bourg of Plouezoc'h, just north of Morlaix, including the Dorduff estuary and the Bay of Morlaix with views out to the Chateau du Taureau. It's just over 8 kms, with a lot of up and down on narrow paths, so a Level 3 walk - some agility needed and faster paced than a stroll - but a very rewarding route. Everyone welcome - 2pm start by church.
