10th ANNIVERSARY

2014 is the 10th anniversary of Brittany Walks which has provided walks, visits and holidays for hundreds of people in many locations all over the region during that time and offered a fruitful meeting place for numerous friendships and even romance... Brittany Walks has also provided free walking information and advice for many people planning holidays in Brittany via the website www.brittanywalks.com, which is regularly updated with useful articles and recommendations.
We are celebrating all these things on Saturday May 24th. The party is invitation only, but I don't have everyone's email address, so please get in touch if you want to come and are not already on the list. Details of arrangements will be sent to all who have given acceptances. Very many thanks to all who have supported and appreciated our work over the years.

May day

Good turn-out yesterday for a fabulous walk in May sunshine, giving a new perspective on Huelgoat and its surrounding countryside. No end of interesting wildlife - we even caught a glimpse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.
Thanks to all! Details of party to follow.

Huelgoat walk - Wednesday May 14th, 2pm

This is a completely new Huelgoat walk, away from the main forest area. It's a pretty route and easy-going, with no particular difficulties or steep gradients, although a few spots will be very muddy after rain. We meet in the (camping-car) parking area on the road from Huelgoat centre towards La Feuillée. Keep the Hotel du Lac on your left and continue ahead for about 700m: the parking is just past a right hand turn (signed Le Fao).
Some of us are meeting for lunch at L'Autre Rive beforehand from 12 onwards - all welcome there too.

Treasure

Three people and three dogs made the long trek up onto the top of the world - as far as Brittany goes - in beautiful hot, sunny weather. And on the way down, we found treasure! Lovely Pebble was Dog of the Day.

Le Relec walk - Wednesday April 16th

We meet in the parking behind the ancient Abbaye du Relec for a 2pm start. This is one of the finest walks of the Monts d'Arrée (10.5kms) with moorland paths, craggy hills and long views. Gradual climbs in the first half of the route to reach the ridge above Le Relec, then downhill all the way! The abbey itself (dating from 1132) is situated in an idyllic spot in the Queffleuth valley with many good walks on offer in the vicinity.

Walking with King Arthur

This was one of the best walks we've had in ages, with warm, sunny spring weather showing off the sights of the forest at Huelgoat to great effect and even tempting King Arthur out from his cave to join us on a stroll up to the menhir at Kerampeulven. Sadly we had more to say about him than vice versa. Good pals Ally and Tex were joint top dogs.

Huelgoat, Wednesday 19th March

We meet for our walk (starts 2pm) in the forest parking on the D769A (direction Poullaouen) about 850m from the town centre. If coming from Huelgoat, this large open area is on the left soon after the sharp right bend over a stone bridge. We shall be following forest tracks, with sights including Arthur's Camp, a fine menhir, the Chaos and the river Argent.
Some of us are having lunch at L'Autre Rive before, arriving 12.15-12.30. This café/bookshop is 650m up the steep road next to the meeting place parking.
